The bikes that are popular in Japan are like American beach-cruisers. They are called ママチャリ (mama “cherry”). I guess chari is a slang word for bike. All the bikes have baskets and are pretty slow. Also, no one locks their bikes up to anything, they just put a lock around the back tire. Here are some pictures:

Too many creeks and hills and thangs. Somebody should make a bicycle that goes on them, a “hill-bike” or “creek-bike” or sumthin.
With more than one gear would be helpful too.
“mama-chari” means Mama’s bike.
It has large bicycle-baskets(front and rear).
It can bear so many cooking ingredients (and children, often), looks like mama-chariot, lol.
